On January 29, Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine for European Integration Iryna Stavchuk presented developments on updating Annexes XXX "Environmental Protection" and XXXI "Climate" of the Association Agreement with the EU during an online meeting with experts and the public. These changes are proposed by the European side and are being agreed.
This was reported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
The Ministry of the Environment accepts comments on the inclusion and updating of the relevant annex to the EU Agreement.
«For the Ministry, the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU is a high priority. The biggest recent achievements in this area are the adoption and implementation of climate change laws. It is about approving the principles of monitoring, reporting and verification of greenhouse gas emissions, handling of ozone-depleting substances and fluorinated greenhouse gases. In the near future, the Ministry expects consideration in the Verkhovna Rada of the draft laws "On Waste Management", "On Prevention, Reduction and Control of Industrial Pollution", "On the Emerald Network", - Iryna Stavchuk said.
The Deputy Minister also notes that progress in the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive is gaining momentum. The main direction of implementation is the introduction of water quality research in Ukraine according to European standards. To this end, two surface water quality monitoring laboratories are already operating in Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk and Donetsk regions. In the spring they plan to open two more - in Vyshgorod and Odesa. They will check the quality of water on modern equipment according to international standards.
